Between flowers imprisoned in ice, frozen in time, the models appear wearing a red A embroidered on the collar or shoulder, topped with 17th century bonnets, in reference to The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne - a novel evoking the humiliation and social stigmatization of a woman accused of adultery in a Puritan American colony.
The designer imagines a romantic world, where the past meets the present, and where ruffles, floral prints and lace mix on deconstructed pieces. The straps slide off the shoulders, the fabric is gathered by ties, the dresses are superimposed in asymmetry. As the silhouettes parade by, the immaculate white changes to black, to soft colors - a golden brown, a water green, a pale pink and a lilac - to end on a scarlet red, a red full of passion. Transparency is the key word, lace and pleated veils reveal the skin, wrap around a chiffon dress; sensuality is modernized.
Preen was created in 1996 by Thornton Bregazzi. He juxtaposes his romantic aesthetic with an almost punk approach to clothing. For the second season in a row, Preen is available exclusively at Leclaireur Sévigné.
