Since yesterday, Thursday August 2, humanity has consumed more resources than the Earth can produce in a year, so we are now living on credit. It is this impact of the human footprint on nature, and the Netflix series Chasing Coralwhich are at the origin of this fall-winter 2018 collection signed Song For The Mute.
Inspired by the documentary on the disappearance of coral reefs, the Australian brand declines silhouettes in pastel tones evoking the hues of the ocean, plants. The jackets have disco sleeves and a seventies collar, while the pants, between streetwear and sportswear, flare out at the legs, giving stature to the silhouette.
Minimalist from head to toe, each piece mixes human intelligence, abstraction, through straight cuts, high at the waist, and raw energy, the wildness of nature via eliminated edges or bits of fabric almost torn, especially on the t-shirts. Lyna Ty and Melvin Tanaya, the designers, chose fabrics to achieve a degree of harmony, a balance between opposing materials, like a balance between human and nature.
