She spent ten years working for several Chinese brands before setting out on her own. Her work was quickly acclaimed by Vogue China, Vogue Italia and others, and she showed her collections in Shanghai, London, Milan and Paris. She participated in the Shigoto Project for LECLAIREUR, alongside Greg Lauren, Ziggy Chen...
Her approach to fashion is the opposite of thefast fashionas confirmed by the clothes she designs. Uma Wang's wardrobe seems to pay little heed to trends. The pieces have a strong identity, marked by abstract motifs and brimming with subtle elements. The cuts are oversized, the tailoring precise, and reflect an aesthetic halfway between East and West.
