The revolutionary.
With his first collection, presented in 1971 in New York, Issey Miyake put forward a concept that was both simplistic and dazzling: to dress the whole body in a single piece of fabric. The success was immediate, the response worldwide, and by 1973, Miyake was parading in Paris before a swooning audience. Since then, the world has hailed his creativity and innovation. In 1993, the designer once again made fashion history with his pleated garments (Pleats Please), whose technique, copied many times over, has never been equalled. Thanks to a unique industrial process, he continues to transform fabric in breathtaking and unique ways. Volumes are turned upside down. Horizontal, vertical or zigzag, tube dresses, cardigans and pants are hand-pressed between 2 sheets of paper. The result is permanent, machine-washable, quick-drying and iron-free. So many little miracles that we're excited about every new season.
