Bitossi Ceramiche
Engraved in ceramic
Bitossi Ceramics was founded in 1871 in Florence, Italy, where the factory is still located today, following a family tradition dating back to the 16th century.
At that time, the family produced roof tiles, before quickly diversifying its product range. In 1921, under the impetus of Guildo Bitossi, Etruscan-inspired vases and small statuettes were added to the catalog. It was then that Aldo Londi joined the company as artistic director. Although Londi was attuned to changes in the international market and buyers' tastes, he remained a fine creator and a great connoisseur of ceramics, serving as Bitossi's artistic director for over 40 years.
In the mid-50s, Bitossi began a collaboration with the architect Ettore Sottsass, which led to the creation of a new, more modern line, breaking with the codes of traditional ceramics. The pieces are now tableware, and the range of colors expands. Londi launches the Rimini Blu line, a unique turquoise that meets with immense success. Since then, the brand has partnered with some of the biggest names in design, including Fornasetti.
The family's heirs have since collected over 7000 documents on the history of Bitossi ceramics and production since its creation, even transforming part of its workshops into a Museum. In 2014, Bitossi Ceramics was entered in the register of Italian Historical Companies.
