The Pathfinder and the Fornasetti House have a very long friendship, illustrated this time with the installation of a new parquet floor - with Fornasetti's signature patterns - whose initial version was imagined for the exhibition Piero Fornasetti: La Folie Pratique at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (2015).
The checkerboards, interlacing, and other geometric symbols of this floor originate in an Ottoman-style wooden screen - called Musciarabia in Arabic - created by the Italian designer in 1954. These finely crafted patterns create an optical illusion that Piero's grandson, Barnaba Fornasetti, saw the potential in.
Now reworked in a white ceruse specially designed to illuminate a room, Fornasetti's parquet floor enhances decorative elements and furniture. The designer's vases, candles and plates are sublimated, and the aluminum double bass, created by John E. Burdick in 1932 and recently used in a series of photos directed by Jean-Daniel Lorieux, seems to be cut out without any light effect.
The glass tables Speccio di Venere, designed by Massimiliano Locatelli for GLAS Italia, also take on a new dimension when placed on the floor. The silver legs that support them, in an almost liquid form, gain in light and shine. Their organic nature is thus sublimated.
