Chitose Abe spent eight years working alongside Junya Watanabe, with whom she perfected her training, before founding Sacai in 1999 and successfully combining a subtle use of texture with cuts that assert their character, blending sporty and urban spirit. Driven by the desire to create timeless, innovative garments, her refined pieces play on the juxtaposition of diverse elements and contrasting textures and fabrics - wool, tulle, silk and cotton. Since 2009, Sacai has been developing a men's collection with a similar approach, sharing the same philosophy as the women's line. Chitose Abe shows in Paris for the first time at Fashion Week autumn-winter 2012/2013. Attention to technical detail is evident in the brand's hybrid designs, while unexpected textile combinations and innovative proportions create unique items that are both modern and timeless. By continuing to defy sartorial convention, Sacai has established itself at the cutting edge of offbeat elegance.
