The Canadian designer Paul Harden began his career as a shoemaker over 25 years ago. Since then he has developed a unique know-how inspired by the craftsmanship of yesteryear, which has earned him the respect and admiration of John Galliano himself. Now working from Brighton, his passion for pinhole photography reflects his relationship with time and modern techniques. A passion that he transforms into art by co-directing a short film entitled "The Dream" shot in 16mm with his sidekick Stuart Pitkin.
The artist creates clothes filled with sincerity and authenticity. From the British countryside to the Amish culture, from the American Civil War to the pre-industrial revolution, Paul Harnden finds his inspiration in archives dating back to 1779.
Paul Harnden works only with the materials he has at his disposal: thick tweeds, rugged linens, leather, carefully selected, which he transforms into coats, jackets, blazers, or pants. In order to achieve his signature distressed effect, he sometimes goes so far as to bury his collections underground for several weeks, letting nature bring its touch to the creative process.
The collections come in sober and natural colors, which he enhances with a different print echoing the imagery of the past.
