Vera Wang is an American designer who became famous for her wedding dresses. Her style balances traditional elegance and modern elements, emphasizing the feminine, and a chic, intelligent sobriety.
The daughter of a Chinese immigrant family, she grew up in New York City where she spent part of her adolescence figure skating.
After spending a few months at La Sorbonne, she returned home and graduated from university, before returning to Vogue. Fifteen years later, having become Senior Fashion Editor, she left the magazine.
In 1987, she became artistic director of accessories at Ralph Lauren. When she got married, two years later, she designed her own wedding dress and at the same time launched her career as a designer.
Her work first met the light in 1994 at the Olympic Winter Games in Oslo: figure skating champion Nancy Kerrigan wears a hand-beaded ensemble by Vera Wang. Since then, Wang has seduced a number of celebrities, including Charlize Theron, Victoria Beckham, Keira Knightley, or even Hailee Steinfled for the Met Gala 2017. She launched her own line of perfumes in 2001, before expanding her catalog, which now includes hui lingerie, jewelry and home decoration.
