Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Picasso, Serge Gainsbourg, Jane Birkin... The Japanese designer Chitose Abe summons the greatest, is inspired by artists with an emblematic sense of style, whose life and work have changed the world and the way we see it. By reinterpreting their silhouettes with her hybrid spirit and textures, Sacai has been reaffirming its status as an innovative and profoundly contemporary brand for almost 20 years.
When Chitose Abe launched Sacai in 1999 - from "Sakai", her maiden name - the designer specialized in knitwear, before broadening her scope with the guiding idea of making clothes that she herself wants to wear: clothes that make women feel good, happy and self-confident.
This striking and sophisticated femininity plays on strong symbols, but always with lightness, in the fabrics and associations proposed. Picasso's sailor, Cobain's leopard fur, anti-homophobic and feminist, Daniel Johnston's striped t-shirt over a shirt, like an anthology of grunge style, Hendrix's hussar jacket, feathers, vintage scarves, colors, pink, blue, red, and patterns, stripes, checks and Prince of Wales... Chitose Abe synthesizes in a single piece several clothes, several attitudes, and gives it breadth by infusing a new energy, that of passion.
