"Smart, fragile but confident". For theFall-Winter 2017Rok Hwang declines his idea of the woman through a first collection of pieces mixing purity and deconstruction, blurring the border between the physical and the abstract.
The Korean designer, who grew up in Austin, Texas, highlights the natural allure of a body, the attitude of a personality, assertive, raw and sensual, with that same casualness and candor proper to youth.
Trench coats with snaps on the sleeves, untucked jeans, sewn on the vertical line of the legs, extra long sleeves, asymmetry, layering...: each piece underlines Hwang's will to seek innovation in each of his creations. Even his duffle coat, which looks like a puzzle, seems to fit the body differently.
Rok Hwang admits to a tactile approach, a need to touch and feel the garment to give it shape. Dozens and dozens of fittings for a piece are sometimes necessary before he considers his work finished. Rok Hwang's main inspiration comes from everyday life, from what is most obvious and most universal.
The designer focuses on construction, lines and ideas, making clothes that are made to last through the seasons and trends.
