Lighting is usually the keystone of an atmosphere. It doesn't just illuminate an environment, it enriches it, gives it density. At Lindsey Adelman, lamps, chandeliers and candlesticks offer sources of light that are as spectacular as they are sculptural. Light is an art.

Lindsey Adelman article 01

The designer draws forms from nature that she brilliantly juxtaposes with artisanal and industrial materials - hand-blown glass, porcelain, copper, bronze, leather and wood. Each model has several versions, the colors of the glass or the materials of the structure can vary. Our favorite, the Bubble chandelier, unfurls like gigantic bud stems, and takes on the appearance of a hanging jellyfish.

"I find lighting interesting because it's an immaterial substance," Adelman explains, "of the intangible order...you really have to shape forms to maximize a lighting effect."

How did she get there? While working in the editorial department of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., Adelman found inspiration by scanning the cutout of a giant Styrofoam fry. In no time at all, she made an inspired conversion, looking for something that would fill her days as happily as possible. During her Master's degree at the Rhode Island School of Design, she found a mentor and partner in David Weeks, a pioneer in lighting design, before launching her own studio in 2006.

Today, with a team of 33 people, Adelman takes care to give the designers who work with her the place their voices and names deserve. By privileging refinement, customization and the creation of limited editions, rather than mass production, she has naturally joined the soul mates of Leclaireur, and we thank her for it.
